SINFONIA
The video below is me playing Sinfonia in my workshop at the college where I work. I was tampering around with an old phone to see if there could be a good vid and sound made from it. I'm a little weary as I had just closed the college up and was due to go home. The video was done at 11 o'clock at night and performing arts had just finished their performance of Miss Saigon. Just before I went I'd thought I would give the little phone a go. The idea being to show on blogs what my fingers are up to and provide a visual addition to my blogs when recording and posting tunes:@))
Sinfonia <- Please click on the highlighted link to hear the recorded version of Sinfonia.
Sinfonia is a slab of neo-classical playing, performed in the key of C major its full of the nuances and techniques that I like. Sinfonia is simply the Italian term for symphony, and in my recording that was the effect that I was trying to achieve. Written very quickly, its basically me warming up, the speed element is exaggerated by my continual pedal toning on a three notes per string motif. The presence of the circle of fourths is evident and which gives the composition its neo-classical sound as does the use of my favorite technique pedal tones!!! Unlike the video above, in the recorded version there is a harpsichord middle section! This was played on my old Yamaha keyboard which I then put through some effects to give it that Bach like church feel. The middle section breaks up the composition as the second part is just the first part repeated. The composition stands well when played live as an unaccompanied piece of music.
