Karaboudjan.

Karaboudjan is a new composition in which there felt a need to add a heaver tune to the live set that's performed.

                            To hear the composition please click on the soundcloud link below;

Karaboudjan is an Armenian/Turkish name; In Turkish it means "This Black Spirit".

 This composition incorporates the use of several techniques and a couple of exotic scales.The use of the E Harmonic minors scale prevails throughout the composition with the added use of the diminished  scale on a singular occasion. The cords are all from the E Harmonic minor scale though used as power  cords and octaves.
Technically:legato,two fingered trills,double stops,bends,vibrato and pinched harmonics are used extensively in Karaboudjan.
 The above video will give a good idea of what my fingers are up to.

   The inspiration for this tune was the influence of  Herge's the adventures of Tintin. In the early seventies through the summer holidays, Tintin would be on in serial form in the mornings. The first one that I remember was "The Crab with the Golden Claws". From then on my parents would by   me the books for Christmas. Tintin seems to be the sole preserve of men and boys with little interest from the female of the species. Theres very     little in the way of strong female characters and the adventures are very  "boys own" in nature, so this is probably why.

 Karaboudjan is the drug smuggling ship that  appears in the"Crab with the golden claws".This is where the character Captain Haddock (as the Captain of the Karaboudjan) first appears and continues to be a mainstay in Tintins adventures  thereon after.

Thanks for taking the time to read my little blog,
